INFO

I paint because my hands remember what screens have forgotten—the drag of bristle against weave, the alchemy of pigment meeting canvas. I paint to keep my eye honest and my touch sharp, to resist the sterile perfection of pixels that never bleed or forgive. I paint to make a beautiful mess, to wear color on my knuckles and lose twelve hours to nothing but music and motion, emerging at 3 a.m. with a stiff neck and a quiet soul. Lately, my best memories are of the people who drift through my mind while I work—faces softening into brushstrokes, love held in layers of paint. This is the dream: to disappear into the work until the work becomes the world. - Matthew
